01 — The product

A decking board that survives 25 years outside.

The process

Thermal modification at 200°C.

Moso bamboo strips are kiln-heated to 200°C in a low-oxygen environment. This process — called thermal modification — permanently alters the cell structure, removing the sugars that fungi and insects feed on. The result is a board that is dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant, and rated Class 1 (the highest) for outdoor durability under EN 350.

Compared to tropical hardwood: BAMOSB decking hits the same 25+ year service life, at a comparable price, without contributing to deforestation. It is harder than white oak. And it comes from a 5-year renewable harvest cycle.

05 — Where it goes

The applications for BAMOSB decking.

06 — Common questions

Does BAMOSB decking really last 25+ years outside?

Yes. Class 1 durability per EN 350 means the wood species is rated for 25+ years of outdoor ground-contact or above-ground use. We have BAMOSB decking installations in coastal China (humid, salt-air), Arizona (UV-intense), and Sweden (freeze-thaw extreme) that are 8+ years in service and showing no structural degradation.

How does it compare to tropical hardwood on price?

Per m² installed, BAMOSB decking is typically 15-25% cheaper than comparable tropical hardwood (Ipe, Cumaru). The saving comes from shorter lead times, more consistent grading, and direct factory pricing.

Does it need to be re-oiled?

For color stability (preventing the natural silvering that happens with all wood species in UV exposure), we recommend re-oiling annually. The structural performance is not affected by re-oiling frequency — it is a purely cosmetic maintenance step.

What about slip resistance?

BAMOSB decking is rated R11 (the standard for outdoor commercial decking) when installed with a brushed finish. We supply both smooth and brushed variants. The brushed variant is recommended for pool surrounds and high-moisture areas.
