1. Receiving & Storage
Inspection at Delivery
Before unloading, inspect each panel bundle for:
- Visible damage: Cracks, chips, or impact damage on panel edges or faces
- Moisture indicators: Water staining, swelling, or mold on panel surfaces
- Quantity verification: Count bundles and verify against packing list
- Documentation: Confirm shipping documents match the delivery (test reports, DoP, certificates)
Reject damaged panels before unloading. Photograph damage with shipping documents visible for freight claims.
Site Storage
- Store panels flat on a level, dry surface. Use dunnage (spacer sticks) at maximum 600 mm centers to allow air circulation underneath.
- Keep panels covered with a waterproof tarp or stored under roof. Bamboo OSB tolerates brief moisture exposure but should not be stored in standing water.
- Maintain 100 mm clearance between bundles and the ground.
- Avoid stacking more than 4 bundles high to prevent bottom-bundle compression damage.
- Store in shade; prolonged direct sun exposure can cause UV degradation of the panel surface.
2. Acclimatization
Before installation, allow panels to acclimatize to site conditions for at least 48 hours. This equalizes panel moisture content with the local environment and reduces post-installation movement.
- Unbundle panels and stand them on edge with stickers (spacer sticks) between each panel to allow air circulation.
- Maintain spacing of at least 50 mm between panels and between panels and walls.

3. Panel Preparation
Cutting
- Use carbide-tipped saw blades for clean cuts. Standard wood-cutting blades wear quickly on bamboo panels.
- Recommended blade: 250 mm diameter, 40-tooth carbide-tipped, with 3 mm kerf.
- For circular saw cuts, score the face side first with shallow cut, then complete the cut to minimize tear-out.
- For large panel packages with many identical cuts, consider pre-cutting at a workshop area with proper dust collection.
Cut Edge Treatment
Bamboo OSB cut edges are more porous than panel faces and should be sealed in humid applications:
- Apply a compatible edge sealant (e.g., acrylic or polyurethane-based) to all cut edges in exterior wall applications.
- For bathroom or wet-area applications, seal all cut edges with a waterproof membrane.
- Factory edges (with original surface) do not require additional sealing.

5. Installation Pattern
Orientation
Install panels with the long dimension horizontal across studs (typical for residential) or vertical (common in commercial). For maximum stiffness, panels should span at least three studs when installed horizontally.
Edge Joints
- Stagger vertical joints between rows so that no joint aligns with a joint in the row above or below.
- Maintain 3 mm expansion gap between adjacent panel edges.
- All panel edges must be supported by framing. Edge joints should occur over studs, not in mid-span.
Penetrations
For window, door, and service penetrations:
- Maintain 3 mm clearance around the perimeter of the opening.
- Fasten panels at 150 mm centers around the perimeter of openings.
- For round penetrations (pipes, ducts), use a hole saw sized 6 mm larger than the pipe and seal the gap with a compatible sealant.
- Apply flashing tape or sealant at all penetration perimeters before installing windows, doors, or trim.
6. Weather Protection During Construction
BAMOSB BOSB-S18 is rated for humid conditions (EN 300 OSB4) and tolerates brief moisture exposure during construction. However, best practice for long-term performance:
- Install panels, then apply weather-resistive barrier (WRB) or sheathing tape within 30 days of panel installation.
- Maintain 6 mm minimum ventilation gap between panel exterior face and cladding in rainscreen assemblies.
- If panels are exposed to weather for > 30 days before WRB installation, inspect for swelling or damage and replace affected panels.
- Apply UV-resistant sheathing tape (e.g., 3M, Tyvek, Siga) at all panel joints to limit air and water infiltration.
7. Cladding Attachment
Bamboo OSB wall sheathing provides an excellent substrate for most cladding systems:
- Fibre cement siding: Attach with corrosion-resistant nails or screws per cladding manufacturer specifications. Through 18 mm panel into studs.
- Wood siding: Standard siding nails through panel into studs. Allow 6 mm ventilation gap in rainscreen assemblies.
- Vinyl siding: Attach siding nails through panel into studs. Do not rely on panel alone for siding attachment.

- Brick veneer: Standard brick ties through panel into studs. Maintain 25 mm air gap between panel and brick.

8. Common Installation Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping acclimatization: Panels installed without acclimatization may develop gaps or buckling as they adjust to site humidity.
- Insufficient fastening: Wider-than-spec fastener spacing reduces shear capacity and wind resistance.
- Over-fastening: Excessive fastener density does not improve performance and may cause panel splitting.
- No expansion gaps: Tight-butted panels will buckle as they absorb moisture.
- Unsupported edges: Unframed panel edges (e.g., at window corners without full blocking) can deflect under load.
- Skipping flashing: Missing flashing at openings allows water intrusion that damages sheathing over time.
- Inadequate WRB: Relying on panel alone (without WRB or taped joints) for weather resistance dramatically shortens service life.
9. Special Conditions
Fire-Rated Assemblies

Acoustic Performance
Bamboo OSB provides mass for STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings. Typical assembly (single layer 18 mm panel + studs + drywall): STC 38–42. For higher STC, use double-layer panel construction or resilient channels.
Termite and Decay Protection
While Moso bamboo is naturally resistant to termites and decay due to its silica content, in high-risk areas (termite zone, ground contact) consider supplementary treatment:
- Borate-based pressure treatment for ground-contact or high-risk applications
- Maintain 150 mm clearance between panel and finished grade
- Install termite shields per local building code requirements
